Mr. Wicke 2-0061.jpg

After leaving high school in 1973, Johnny worked 9 months in the drywall trade as an apprentice carpenter. He left this work to join the U S Air Force in April of 1974 where he served four years as a mechanic on C-130 aircraft with the 317th TAC at Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina which sent operations over all free Europe. While on active duty, Johnny achieved his commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating.

Upon leaving military service, Johnny took a maintenance mechanic position in the Airway Facilities Division of the FAA. During this time he schooled on basic electrical and HVAC. On the side he continued with pilot training to earn his multi-engine and instructor ratings. He then took a flight instructor position at Hanger One and continued there for 3-years until taking a corporate pilot position with a real estate and oil and gas firm called Quadel.

He left full-time corporate aviation and joined the family drywall business as an estimator in 1984. In 1988 he parlayed his estimating skills into the roofing business. He worked as an estimator/project manager for ABC Sheet Metal, Parris Roofing and Total Building Maintenance before joining Tri-State Roofing Contractors in 2016. He finished up a 36-year career in commercial construction in April of 2020 as he retired from Tri-State.

The course of his construction career was mainly commercial roofing. As both an estimator and project manager, his main focus was developing and keeping commercial roofing accounts. Using products, by licensed arrangement from many roofing material manufacturers, he installed multiple low-sloped roofs on a wide variety of customer’s buildings.  This service included the full span of market sectors: industrial, retail and restaurant, offices, schools, public municipalities, military bases, and government buildings.

Johnny has been married to his wife Corina for 34 years. They have three grown children and nine grandchildren.
